Anticoagulation Clinics of North America
Anticoagulation Clinics of North America (ACNA) is a division of Cancer Care Centers of South Texas. Our ACNA clinics are located at 4411 Medical Drive, Suite 100 in San Antonio, 1448 Common St. in New Braunfels, 124 E. Bandera Rd, Suite 301 in Boerne and 1025 Garner Field Rd. in Uvalde.
ACNA is a complete anticoagulation and thrombosis management service providing high-quality, efficient care to patients receiving anticoagulation with warfarin (Coumadin) and antithrombotic medications (blood thinners and platelet inhibitors). Services offered include both out-patient and in-hospital management of anticoagulant medications. In addition, ACNA offers a comprehensive out-patient treatment program for Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and comprehensive evaluation and management of patients with thrombotic disorders. Most patients with deep vein thrombosis can now be evaluated and treated in our office without needing a hospital admission.
Our program offers patient the following services:
- Individualized care for each patient
- Same day anticoagulation management with rapid processing time for Prothrombin/International Normalized Ratio (PT/INR) as well as immediate availability of the D-dimer assay
- Written dosing instructions
- Extensive patient education
- Coordination with the patient's referring physician
- Coordinated follow-up visits
- Management for procedures such as dental work and surgery
- Hospital visits or consultations for anticoagulation care
- CT pulmonary angiography and Doppler ultrasonography at our San Antonio location
- In vitro evaluation of the effectiveness of Plavix and aspirin
All laboratory work is done in our office. Our patients meet with an anticoagulation specialist each time they visit and are given a written copy of their dosing instructions. Our program has shown that with regular visits and anticoagulation management, complications from bleeding and thrombosis can be reduced by approximately 80%. Our ACNA program produces an 87.7% "time in range" for our patients which is well above the national average for other programs at approximately 50-60%. The best results are obtained when patients are kept tightly in their designated range based on their risk for forming clots versus the risk of bleeding.
